Efficient response of an onshore Oscillating Water Column Wave Energy Converter using a one-phase SPH model coupled with a multiphysics library

In this paper the numerical modelling of an Oscillating Water Column (OWC) Wave Energy Converter (WEC) is studied using DualSPHysics, a software that applies Smoothed Particle Hydrodynamics (SPH) method. SPH Lagrangian meshless method used in growing range applications within field Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD). The power take-off (PTO) system OWC WEC numerically modelled by adding force on plate floating top free surface inside chamber. That implemented multiphysics library Project Chrono, which avoids need simulating air phase computationally expensive methods. Validation carried out with experimental data received from Korea Research Institute Ship and Ocean Engineering (KRISO) Systems (OES) International Agency (IEA) Task 10. water elevation at centre chamber airflow speed through orifice are compared for different wave conditions PTO systems (different diameters part WEC). Results show DualSPHysics valid tool to model without system, even though no included.
